भारतीय क्रिकेट में इस समय एक बहुत बड़े प्रशासनिक और रणनीतिक बदलाव की तैयारी चल रही है। कड़े फैसले लेने के लिए मशहूर मुख्य कोच गौतम गंभीर और राष्ट्रीय चयन समिति अब एक बेहद चौंकाने वाला कदम उठाने जा रहे हैं। खबरों की मानें तो स्टार बल्लेबाज सूर्यकुमार यादव को भारतीय टी20 टीम की कप्तानी से हटाया जा सकता है। ब्रिटेन दौरे के लिए टीम का चयन होने से ठीक पहले इस बड़े फैसले के बारे में बीसीसीआई (BCCI) की शीर्ष परिषद को सूचित किया जा सकता है। उम्मीद है कि बीसीसीआई सचिव देवजीत सैकिया इस बात की पूरी जानकारी परिषद को देंगे कि राष्ट्रीय चयनकर्ता और मुख्य कोच गौतम गंभीर इस फैसले पर एकमत हैं या नहीं। यह साफ है कि अगर सूर्यकुमार को कप्तानी से हटाया जाता है तो लगभग 18 महीनों तक अच्छा प्रदर्शन नहीं कर पाने के कारण उन्हें टीम में एक खिलाड़ी के तौर पर भी नहीं रखा जाएगा।
बीसीसीआई के एक सूत्र ने बुधवार को पीटीआई से बताया, ‘‘सूर्यकुमार को कप्तानी से हटाया जाना लगभग तय है। चयनकर्ता आईपीएल के आखिर तक इंतजार करना चाहते थे, ताकि यह देख सकें कि क्या वह अपनी पुरानी लय में लौट पाते हैं या नहीं। लेकिन, वह पूरी तरह से लय से बाहर दिखे। वह रन ही नहीं बना रहे थे बल्कि उनकी बल्लेबाजी में भी वह धार नहीं दिख रही थी। इसलिए अब एक कड़ा फैसला लेना जरूरी हो गया है। ’’
सूत्र ने कहा, ‘‘चयनकर्ता उन्हें लंबी सूची से बाहर कर देंगे और उन्होंने संकेत दे दिया है कि सूर्यकुमार अब उनकी योजनाओं का हिस्सा नहीं हैं। ’’
सूत्र ने कहा, ‘‘श्रेयस अय्यर और तिलक वर्मा अगले टी20 कप्तान बनने के दावेदार हैं। ’’
हालांकि कप्तानी का चुनाव इतना सीधा नहीं है।
जैसा कि पिछले सप्ताह पीटीआई ने बताया था कि कुछ विकल्प मौजूद हैं। सूर्यकुमार के बाहर होने के बाद श्रेयस अय्यर एक स्वाभाविक पसंद लगते हैं।
लेकिन एक अप्रत्याशित विकल्प तिलक हो सकते हैं, जिनके बारे में चयन समिति के कई सदस्यों का मानना है कि अपनी उम्र को देखते हुए वह एक आदर्श उम्मीदवार हैं।
सूत्र ने कहा, ‘‘तिलक को श्रीलंका में ए सीरीज के लिए कप्तान बनाया गया है, ताकि उनकी कप्तानी की काबिलियत को परखा जा सके। ’’
ऐसा समझा जाता है कि गंभीर को श्रेयस को लेकर कुछ आपत्तियां हैं जो 2024 में कोलकाता नाइट राइडर्स के कप्तान थे जब मौजूदा भारतीय मुख्य कोच टीम के मेंटोर थे।
उस समय श्रेयस ने सार्वजनिक रूप से कहा था कि उनकी काबिलियत को कम आंका जा रहा है और यह बात किसी की नजर से छिपी नहीं रही।
सभी को पता है कि गंभीर की पहली पसंद संजू सैमसन हैं जिन्होंने टी20 विश्व कप के नॉकआउट चरण में शानदार प्रदर्शन किया था। लेकिन चयनकर्ताओं को इस बात का पूरा भरोसा नहीं है कि सैमसन या ईशान किशन में से कोई भी लंबे समय तक लगातार अच्छा प्रदर्शन कर पाएगा।
