भारत के बैडमिंटन सितारों ने एक बार फिर देश का नाम रोशन किया, लेकिन इस बार चर्चा उनकी जीत से ज्यादा उनके दर्द की हो रही है। थॉमस कप में भारतीय पुरुष टीम ने कांस्य पदक जीता, लेकिन देश लौटने पर जिस तरह की प्रतिक्रिया मिली, उसने खिलाड़ियों को निराश कर दिया।
डबल्स स्टार सात्विकसाईराज रंकीरेड्डी ने सोशल मीडिया पर एक पोस्ट शेयर की, जिसमें टीम के साथ उनकी तस्वीर थी, लेकिन आसपास कोई खास उत्साह या स्वागत नजर नहीं आया। यह पोस्ट वायरल हो गई और भारतीय खेल संस्कृति पर सवाल खड़े करने लगी।
रंकीरेड्डी ने साफ कहा कि वह आमतौर पर ऐसी बातें सार्वजनिक नहीं करते, लेकिन इस बार उन्हें बोलना जरूरी लगा। उन्होंने कहा कि खिलाड़ियों को बड़े पुरस्कार या पैसे की जरूरत नहीं है, बल्कि छोटी-सी तारीफ भी काफी होती है। अगर कोई बच्चा आकर कह दे कि आपने अच्छा खेला, तो वही हमारे लिए बड़ी बात है।
उनकी सबसे बड़ी शिकायत तब सामने आई जब टीम भारत लौटी। उन्होंने बताया कि एयरपोर्ट पर किसी ने उन्हें पहचाना तक नहीं। हम थॉमस कप की जर्सी पहने हुए थे, लेकिन किसी ने यह तक नहीं पूछा कि हम कौन हैं। लोग आईपीएल और राजनीति में ज्यादा व्यस्त थे। उन्होंने यह भी बताया कि खिलाड़ियों को खुद कैब बुक करनी पड़ी, जो उनके लिए काफी निराशाजनक अनुभव था।
उनके साथी चिराग शेट्टी ने भी इसी तरह की भावना जाहिर की। उन्होंने कहा कि बैडमिंटन को फॉलो करने वाले लोग जरूर सराहना करते हैं, लेकिन आम जनता को उनकी उपलब्धि की अहमियत समझ में नहीं आती। यह दुख की बात है कि हम अभी भी एक स्पोर्टिंग नेशन नहीं बन पाए हैं।
चिराग ने यह भी बताया कि देश के लिए खेलना गर्व की बात है, लेकिन इसके साथ भारी दबाव भी आता है, जबकि बदले में उतनी पहचान नहीं मिलती। उन्होंने यहां तक कह दिया कि वह अपने बच्चे को बैडमिंटन खेलने के लिए प्रेरित नहीं करेंगे, क्योंकि यह सफर मानसिक रूप से काफी कठिन है।
भारत ने थॉमस कप में पहले भी 1952, 1955 और 1979 में पदक जीते थे और 2022 में ऐतिहासिक खिताब भी अपने नाम किया था। इसके बावजूद खिलाड़ियों का कहना है कि अगर आप गोल्ड नहीं जीतते, तो आपकी उपलब्धि को उतनी अहमियत नहीं दी जाती। यह पूरा मामला एक बड़े सवाल की ओर इशारा करता है कि क्या भारत सिर्फ क्रिकेट तक सीमित रह गया है? खिलाड़ियों की यह नाराजगी बताती है कि देश में अन्य खेलों को भी बराबर सम्मान और पहचान देने की जरूरत है।
