मुंबई इंडियंस और चेन्नई सुपर किंग्स के बीच गुरुवार को खेला गया मुकाबला रोमांच के साथ-साथ विवादों से भी भरा रहा। एक ओर मुंबई टीम द्वारा कन्कशन विकल्प के इस्तेमाल को लेकर चर्चा रही, वहीं दूसरी ओर मैदान पर तिलक वर्मा और चेन्नई के हरफनमौला खिलाड़ी जेमी ओवर्टन के बीच तीखी नोकझोंक देखने को मिली। मामला इतना बढ़ गया कि अंपायर को बीच में आकर स्थिति संभालनी पड़ी।
यह घटना मुंबई की पारी के 10वें ओवर की आखिरी गेंद के बाद हुई। तिलक वर्मा ने गेंद को मिडविकेट की दिशा में खेला और दूसरा रन लेने की कोशिश की। लेकिन दूसरे छोर पर मौजूद सूर्यकुमार यादव ने उन्हें वापस भेज दिया। इसी दौरान तिलक को क्रीज में लौटते समय ओवरटन के पास से तेजी से निकलना पड़ा, क्योंकि ओवरटन थ्रो पकड़ने के लिए खड़े थे।

चेन्नई की जीत के सबसे बड़े नायक संजू सैमसन रहे, जिन्होंने नाबाद 101 रन की शानदार पारी खेली। यह उनका पांचवां शतक रहा जबकि चेन्नई के लिए चार पारियों में दूसरा शतक है। उन्होंने पूरे मैच में मुंबई के गेंदबाजों पर दबाव बनाए रखा। लक्ष्य का पीछा करने उतरी मुंबई इंडियंस की टीम 19 ओवर में सिर्फ 104 रन पर सिमट गई। तिलक वर्मा ने 37 और सूर्यकुमार यादव ने 35 रन बनाए, लेकिन बाकी बल्लेबाज पूरी तरह फ्लॉप रहे।
चेन्नई की ओर से अकिल हुसैन ने 4 विकेट लेकर मुंबई की कमर तोड़ दी जबकि नूर अहमद ने 2 विकेट झटके। इस जीत के साथ चेन्नई ने पिछले मुकाबले की हार का हिसाब भी बराबर कर लिया।
