शुभमन गिल की अगुवाई वाली भारतीय टीम ने अफगानिस्तान के खिलाफ अपने एकमात्र टेस्ट मैच से पहले लाल गेंद से खेलने की तैयारियों को शुरू कर दिया है, जो शनिवार को न्यू चंडीगढ़ में शुरू होने वाला है। टीम इंडिया ने अपने X हैंडल पर एक वीडियो पोस्ट किया है, जिसमें कुलदीप यादव, यशस्वी जायसवाल और केएल राहुल सहित अन्य खिलाड़ी एक पूर्ण प्रशिक्षण सत्र में भाग लेते हुए दिखाई दे रहे हैं, और मुख्य कोच गौतम गंभीर अपने खिलाड़ियों की देखरेख कर रहे हैं।
पोस्ट के कैप्शन में लिखा है, "#INDvAFG टेस्ट से पहले लाल गेंद से अभ्यास शुरू होने के साथ ही टीम इंडिया ने नेट पर जमकर प्रैक्टिस की।" अफगानिस्तान के खिलाफ टेस्ट मैच भारतीय पुरुष टीम का इस साल का पहला लाल गेंद वाला टूर्नामेंट होगा, जो आईपीएल 2026 के समापन के एक सप्ताह से भी कम समय बाद खेला जाएगा। इस टेस्ट के बाद, भारत 14 से 20 जून तक अफगानिस्तान के खिलाफ तीन मैचों की वनडे सीरीज खेलेगा।
गिल दोनों फॉर्मेट में टीम की कप्तानी करेंगे, जबकि केएल राहुल को वनडे में ऋषभ पंत की जगह उप-कप्तान बनाया गया है। वहीं, श्रेयस अय्यर को 50 ओवर के फॉर्मेट के लिए उप-कप्तान बनाया गया है। गौरतलब है कि पूर्व भारतीय लेग स्पिनर साईराज बहुतुले मंगलवार को पुरुष राष्ट्रीय टीम में स्पिन गेंदबाजी कोच के रूप में शामिल हुए।
53 वर्षीय बहुतुले सभी प्रारूपों में भारत के स्पिन विभाग की देखरेख करेंगे। बहुतुले इंडियन प्रीमियर लीग (आईपीएल) 2026 में पंजाब किंग्स (पीबीकेएस) के स्पिन गेंदबाजी कोच के रूप में काम करने के बाद भारतीय टीम में शामिल हुए हैं। एक खिलाड़ी के रूप में, बहुतुले ने 1997 से 2003 के बीच भारत का प्रतिनिधित्व किया, जिसमें उन्होंने दो टेस्ट और आठ वनडे मैच खेले। अंतरराष्ट्रीय स्तर पर सीमित अवसरों के बावजूद, उन्होंने लगभग दो दशकों तक एक बेहद सफल घरेलू करियर का आनंद लिया। इस लेग स्पिनर ने 188 प्रथम श्रेणी मैचों में 630 विकेट और 143 लिस्ट ए मैचों में 197 विकेट लिए। अपनी नई भूमिका में, बहुतुले मुख्य कोच गंभीर, बल्लेबाजी कोच सितांशु कोटक, तेज गेंदबाजी कोच मोर्ने मोर्कल, फील्डिंग कोच टी दिलीप और सहायक कोच रयान टेन डोएशेट के साथ काम करेंगे।
