भारत के पूर्व ऑफ स्पिनर रविचंद्रन अश्विन ने खुलासा किया है कि अगर वह चेन्नई सुपर किंग्स (सीएसके) की तरफ से खेलते हुए ‘मानसिक रूप से परेशान करने वाले’ और ‘पीड़ादायक’ दौर से नहीं गुजरे होते तो वह इंडियन प्रीमियर लीग (आईपीएल) में थोड़ा और समय तक खेल सकते थे।
अश्विन ने 2024 में अंतरराष्ट्रीय क्रिकेट से संन्यास ले लिया था। इसके बाद उन्होंने पिछले साल आईपीएल को भी अलविदा कह दिया था।
इस स्टार स्पिनर ने अपने यूट्यूब चैनल ‘ऐश की बात’ में कहा कि उन्होंने फ्रेंचाइजी को उनके भविष्य के बारे में फैसला करने की दुविधा से बचाने के लिए आईपीएल से संन्यास लेने का फैसला किया।
अश्विन ने कहा, ‘‘मैंने सीएसके के साथ एक निराशाजनक सत्र बिताया। यह मेरे लिए व्यक्तिगत रूप से निराशाजनक सत्र था। सच कहूं तो मुझे लग रहा था कि मैं और खेल सकता हूं लेकिन मैंने इसलिए संन्यास ले लिया क्योंकि मेरे पास भावनात्मक रूप से कई अन्य चीजों को साथ लेकर खेलने की क्षमता नहीं थी।’’
अश्विन ने आईपीएल से संन्यास की घोषणा करने से पहले 2025 के सत्र में कम इस्तेमाल किए जाने के बाद सीएसके से अपनी भूमिका के बारे में स्पष्टीकरण मांगा था। वह सीएसके के 14 मैचों में से केवल नौ मैच में ही खेले थे। सीएसके से जुड़ना उनके लिए घर वापसी जैसा था क्योंकि उन्होंने अपने आईपीएल करियर की शुरुआत इसी टीम से की थी।
उन्होंने कहा, ‘‘‘मैं वहां नहीं जाना चाहता। यह मानसिक रूप से परेशान करने वाला है। यह मेरे लिए बहुत पीड़ादायक था। मैं वहां नहीं जाना चाहता था। मैंने थोड़ी चर्चा की और फिर फैसला किया कि मैंने चेन्नई से शुरुआत की है और मैं अपने गृहनगर में ही इसे समाप्त कर रहा हूं।’’
अश्विन ने कहा, ‘‘मैंने संन्यास लेने का फैसला इसलिए किया क्योंकि इससे उन्हें मुझे टीम में बनाए रखने या बाहर करने का फैसला लेने के लिए दुविधा में नहीं पड़ना पड़ा। इसके अलावा मेरे संन्यास लेने से उनकी 10 करोड़ रुपये की बचत भी हुई।’’
अश्विन को सीएसके ने 9.75 करोड़ रुपये में खरीदा था।
