A claim made by Iran has heightened anxiety in the United States and Israel. Iran's Foreign Minister stated that his country is receiving military assistance from Russia and China. Specifically, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi remarked that Russia and China are providing cooperation to Tehran across various sectors, including military support. He asserted that, amidst the ongoing conflict with the United States and Israel, Moscow and Beijing have emerged as strategic partners for Iran. Amidst the continuously deteriorating situation in the Strait of Hormuz, US President Donald Trump finds himself at a juncture where neither NATO appears to stand with him, nor is China willing to play any active role. Before contemplating an attack on Iran, the US consulted neither with NATO nor with its closest ally, Britain. And now, this very strategy appears to be backfiring on him. From Venezuela to Iran: Has Trump's 'Overconfidence' Become a Liability? Rapid success in Venezuela had convinced Washington that, in Iran as well, the US—alongside Israel—would be able to impose its terms within a matter of days. The expectation was that Iran would quickly capitulate, thereby sending a clear signal of American power to both China and Russia. However, Iran has completely upended every assumption underlying the US strategy. It has effectively blockaded the Strait of Hormuz, causing a crisis to loom over global energy security. Twenty percent of the world's oil passes through this route, and the apprehension of a shutdown has driven prices up to the range of $102–$106 per barrel. Experts warn that if the situation does not improve, prices could soar to as high as $200 per barrel.
