भारत के पूर्व कप्तान और कोच अनिल कुंबले का मानना है कि शानदार सलामी बल्लेबाज अभिषेक शर्मा को अपनी आक्रामकता और क्रीज पर लंबे समय तक टिके रहने के बीच सही संतुलन बनाना होगा जैसा वीरेंद्र सहवाग ने अपने करियर के दौरान किया था।
पच्चीस साल के अभिषेक हाल में शीर्ष क्रम के सबसे विस्फोटक बल्लेबाजों में शामिल रहे हैं। वे अक्सर ज्यादा जोखिम और ज्यादा रन जुटाने (हाई-रिस्क, हाई-रिवॉर्ड) वाले अंदाज से शानदार शुरुआत दिलाते हैं।
हालांकि वह अपनी तेज शुरुआत को बड़े स्कोर में बदलने में ज्यादातर नाकाम रहे हैं।
कुंबले ने कहा, ‘‘मैं उनकी तुलना वीरेंद्र सहवाग जैसे खिलाड़ी से करूंगा क्योंकि वह हर गेंद को स्मैश करने की कोशिश करते थे। जब वह टेस्ट क्रिकेट से वनडे क्रिकेट और फिर टी20 क्रिकेट में आए तो उन्हें अहसास हुआ कि उन्हें अपनी पारी की गति थोड़ी अलग तरह से तय करनी होगी। ’’
उन्होंने ‘जियो स्टार’ से कहा, ‘‘लेकिन सहवाग तब भी 140-150 के स्ट्राइक रेट से खेलते थे। अभिषेक शर्मा को इस बारे में सोचना शुरू करना चाहिए। उन्हें खुद से पूछना चाहिए, ‘मैं 200 के स्ट्राइक रेट से रन बना रहा हूं, मुझसे उम्मीदें लगी हुई हैं, तो क्या अब मुझे 300 के स्ट्राइक रेट से खेलना चाहिए या नहीं?’ आपको बस सामान्य रहना है। आपको ज्यादा से ज्यादा गेंदें खेलनी हैं। ’’
उन्होंने कहा, ‘‘अगर अभिषेक शर्मा किसी पारी में 20 गेंदें खेलते हैं तो हम जानते हैं कि वे 50 रन के आंकड़े के करीब पहुंच जाएंगे। हमने संजू सैमसन के साथ भी ऐसा ही देखा है, वह 40 या 50 के स्कोर पर आउट नहीं होते बल्कि पारी को और आगे ले जाकर 85-90 के स्कोर तक पहुंचते हैं और अपनी पारी को यादगार बनाते हैं। ’’
कुंबले ने कहा, ‘‘टी20 प्रारूप में आपको इसी तरह की बल्लेबाजी की जरूरत होती है। शायद इस सत्र में आपको अभिषेक में इसी तरह की परिपक्वता देखने को मिलेगी जिसकी सनराइजर्स हैदराबाद को भी उम्मीद होगी। ’’
अभिषेक के लिए टी20 विश्व कप का सफर कुछ खास नहीं रहा था और अब वह 28 मार्च से शुरू हो रहे आईपीएल में सनराइजर्स हैदराबाद की तरफ से खेलते नजर आएंगे।
दक्षिण अफ्रीका के पूर्व कप्तान एबी डिविलियर्स ने भी इस बाएं हाथ के बल्लेबाज से ज्यादा निरंतरता लाने की बात कही क्योंकि अब अभिषेक को उम्मीदों के बढ़ते दबाव का भी सामना करना होगा।
उन्होंने कहा, ‘‘वह अब 25 साल का है, 20 का नहीं। इसलिए यह निश्चित रूप से वह दौर है जब उसे ज्यादा जिम्मेदारी लेनी शुरू कर देनी चाहिए। मीडिया का दबाव होगा और लोग उससे और अधिक अच्छा प्रदर्शन करने की उम्मीद करेंगे। ’’
डिविलियर्स ने कहा, ‘‘हम जानते हैं कि टी20 विश्च कप के दौरान उसका प्रदर्शन थोड़ा ऊपर-नीचे रहा था, जो निराशाजनक था। फाइनल में उसने अच्छा प्रदर्शन किया। लेकिन इसके अलावा उसके लिए यह टूर्नामेंट इतना अच्छा नहीं रहा। आईपीएल 2025 में उसका प्रदर्शन जबरदस्त रहा जिसमें उसने लगभग 200 के स्ट्राइक-रेट से रन बनाए।
