Pope Leo XIV has issued a warning about the dangers of artificial intelligence (AI) at the start of his four-day visit to France. The pontiff cautioned against "losing our humanity amid a paradise of machines" in wide-ranging remarks to Church and state officials at the Élysée Palace, following an hour of talks with President Emmanuel Macron. Large crowds expected throughout the trip, reflecting an enthusiasm that the Church attributes to growing spirituality among the French and other Europeans. The highpoint of his visit is set to be a giant Mass attended by more than half a million people in Paris on Saturday. Internet restricted in Ethiopia's Tigray region as fighting breaks out | BBC News
Services provided by state-owned telecoms operator Ethio Telecom have been completely cut, although those from the much smaller private firm Safaricom remain operational. Internet monitoring group NetBlocks earlier posted on X that network data indicated a sub-national internet shutdown in northern Tigray. Clashes between Tigrayan forces and their allies and Ethiopia's federal troops broke out on Wednesday, prompting heightened tension and reports of panic buying. During the two-year civil which ended in 2022, Tigray was totally cut off from the outside world. Limited access to cash, food and medicine pushed hundreds of thousands into famine-like conditions. The BBC has contacted Ethiopian authorities for comment.
