Republic BharatA fresh political storm has erupted in Punjab after Jagseer Singh alias Jagga, a resident of Namol village in Sangrur, allegedly consumed a poisonous substance outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office. Jagseer alleged that he faced threats and harassment after uploading a video about alleged drug sales in his village and claimed that his complaints did not receive effective action. He was taken to Sangrur Civil Hospital and later referred to Rajindra Hospital, Patiala, for treatment. Police say the matter is under investigation and that his statement will be recorded when doctors permit. The allegations have triggered sharp attacks on the Bhagwant Mann-led AAP government over Punjab’s drug problem. The AAP and police have disputed parts of the narrative, saying Jagseer has previous criminal cases, including one under the NDPS Act; the sarpanch named in the allegations has denied wrongdoing.
