At the centre of the latest debate is the CCTV evidence trail. Documents and statements cited in the case raise questions over whether CCTV footage was viewed and backed up in 2020, why recordings for crucial dates are reportedly unavailable now, and what happened to the hard disk and the alleged backup material. These issues require a complete chain-of-custody examination by the CBI. The FIR contains allegations of suppression, destruction or fabrication of evidence, including claims regarding electronic records. These are allegations that the CBI must verify through documentary, forensic and witness evidence. No court has concluded that any police officer deleted CCTV footage or destroyed evidence.
