सिडनी क्रिकेट ग्राउंड में खेले जा रहे एशेज के पांचवें और आखिरी टेस्ट के दौरान ऑस्ट्रेलियाई क्रिकेट को एक और यादगार पल मिला है। बता दें कि मंगलवार, 6 जनवरी 2026 को ऑस्ट्रेलिया के अनुभवी बल्लेबाज़ स्टीव स्मिथ ने एशेज इतिहास में दूसरा सबसे ज़्यादा रन बनाने वाले खिलाड़ी बनने का गौरव हासिल किया है। यह उपलब्धि उन्होंने मैच के दूसरे दिन ऑस्ट्रेलिया की पहली पारी के दौरान दर्ज की है।
मौजूद जानकारी के अनुसार, स्टीव स्मिथ ने इस दौरान इंग्लैंड के दिग्गज बल्लेबाज़ जैक हॉब्स का रिकॉर्ड पीछे छोड़ा है। हॉब्स ने एशेज में 41 मैचों की 71 पारियों में 3636 रन बनाए थे और उनका औसत 54.26 का रहा है, जिसमें 13 शतक और 15 अर्धशतक शामिल रहे हैं। वहीं स्मिथ अब 41 मैचों की 73 पारियों में 3644 रन बना चुके हैं और उनका औसत शानदार 56.93 का है, जिसमें 13 शतक और 15 अर्धशतक दर्ज हैं।
गौरतलब है कि एशेज इतिहास में सर्वाधिक रन बनाने का रिकॉर्ड आज भी महान ऑस्ट्रेलियाई बल्लेबाज़ सर डॉन ब्रैडमैन के नाम दर्ज है। ब्रैडमैन ने 37 मैचों की 63 पारियों में 5028 रन बनाए थे और उनका औसत अविश्वसनीय 89.78 रहा है, जिसमें 19 शतक और 12 अर्धशतक शामिल हैं।
इस मैच में स्टीव स्मिथ ने अपने टेस्ट करियर का 37वां शतक भी पूरा किया है। बता दें कि यह उनका एशेज में 13वां शतक है, जिसके साथ उन्होंने जैक हॉब्स के 12 एशेज शतकों का रिकॉर्ड भी पीछे छोड़ दिया है। एशेज में उनसे अधिक शतक अब सिर्फ डॉन ब्रैडमैन के नाम दर्ज हैं।
इंग्लैंड की ओर से पूर्व कप्तान जो रूट ने पहली पारी में 160 रन की पारी खेली है। इसके साथ ही वे एशेज में सर्वाधिक रन बनाने वाले बल्लेबाज़ों की सूची में आठवें स्थान पर बने हुए हैं। रूट ने अब तक 39 मैचों की 74 पारियों में 2822 रन बनाए हैं और उनका औसत 41.50 रहा है, जिसमें छह शतक और 18 अर्धशतक शामिल हैं।
मैच की स्थिति पर नज़र डालें तो ऑस्ट्रेलिया मजबूत स्थिति में दिखाई दे रहा है। ट्रैविस हेड की 163 रन की शानदार पारी और स्टीव स्मिथ के शतक की बदौलत मेज़बान टीम इंग्लैंड के 384 रन के स्कोर को पार कर चुकी है और मैच पर उसकी पकड़ मज़बूत होती जा रही है।
