अपनी स्थापना के पहले 40 वर्षों में एचईसी सिर्फ तीन वित्त वर्षों 1975-76, 1976-77 और 1988-89 में ही मुनाफा कमाने में सफल रही. इसके बाद सरकार ने कंपनी को संकट से निकालने के लिए कई बार वित्तीय सहायता और पुनरुद्धार पैकेज दिया. वर्ष 2005, 2008, 2013, 2014 और 2017 में कैबिनेट की मंजूरी से एचईसी को ऋण, वित्तीय सहायता और जमीन के मुद्रीकरण जैसे उपाय उपलब्ध कराए गए. लेकिन इन तमाम प्रयासों के बावजूद कंपनी की वित्तीय स्थिति को स्थायी रूप से सुधारने में सफलता नहीं मिली.
