भारत और अफ़गानिस्तान के बीच खेले जा रहे एकमात्र ऐतिहासिक टेस्ट मैच का बिगुल न्यू चंडीगढ़ के महाराजा यादवेंद्र सिंह इंटरनेशनल क्रिकेट स्टेडियम में बज चुका है। मल्टी-फॉर्मेट सीरीज़ के इस इकलौते टेस्ट मैच में टॉस का बॉस भारत बना है। भारतीय कप्तान शुभमन गिल ने टॉस जीतकर पहले बल्लेबाज़ी करने का साहसिक फ़ैसला किया है। इस मुकाबले में भारतीय खेमे से बड़ी खबर यह है कि युवा स्पिन ऑलराउंडर मानव सुथार को टेस्ट क्रिकेट में डेब्यू करने का सुनहरा मौका मिला है। यह टेस्ट मैच हालांकि मौजूदा आईसीसी वर्ल्ड टेस्ट चैंपियनशिप (WTC) साइकल का हिस्सा नहीं है, लेकिन दोनों टीमों के लिए अपनी ताकत आजमाने और नए संयोजन को परखने का यह बेहतरीन मंच है।

गिल ने टॉस के समय कहा "हम पहले बल्लेबाज़ी करेंगे। यहाँ बहुत गर्मी और उमस है, इसलिए मुझे लगता है कि जैसे-जैसे समय बीतेगा, विकेट धीमा और नीचा होता जाएगा। पिच अच्छी लग रही है। मुझे लगता है कि गर्मी की वजह से यह थोड़ी सूखी है। पिछले कुछ हफ़्तों से यहाँ बहुत गर्मी रही है और मुझे लगता है कि आगे भी ऐसा ही रहेगा। (घरेलू मैदान पर पहली बार कप्तानी करने पर कैसा लग रहा है?) बहुत खास। ज़ाहिर है, मैं यहीं पास में ही बड़ा हुआ हूँ। यहीं खेलकर बड़ा हुआ हूँ और हमेशा अपने होमटाउन में खेलना चाहता था। इसलिए मुझे लगता है कि अपने घरेलू मैदान पर पहली बार देश की कप्तानी करना बहुत बड़े सम्मान और सौभाग्य की बात है।
