अंतर्राष्ट्रीय क्रिकेट परिषद (आईसीसी) ने नियमित अनुपालन समीक्षा के दौरान शासन, वित्तीय निगरानी और प्रशासनिक प्रक्रियाओं से संबंधित चिंताओं के कारण कनाडा क्रिकेट को निलंबित कर दिया था। हालांकि, क्रिकेट कनाडा ने तुरंत कार्रवाई करते हुए अपनी निलंबित सहयोगी सदस्यता की शीघ्र बहाली सुनिश्चित करने के लिए एक व्यापक सुधारात्मक कार्य योजना प्रस्तुत की। कनाडा ने संगठन को अनुपालन में वापस लाने के उद्देश्य से तत्काल और दीर्घकालिक सुधारों की रूपरेखा प्रस्तुत करते हुए एक विस्तृत रोडमैप पहले ही प्रस्तुत कर दिया है। इस योजना में शासन और वित्तीय कमियों का आकलन और निगरानी एवं जवाबदेही को मजबूत करने के उपाय शामिल हैं।
बोर्ड अध्यक्ष अरविंदर खोसा के नेतृत्व में वर्तमान प्रशासन और नव निर्वाचित नौ सदस्यीय बोर्ड का तर्क है कि आईसीसी द्वारा उठाए गए कई मुद्दे अप्रैल और मई में बोर्ड के चुनाव से पहले के निर्णयों और प्रथाओं से उत्पन्न हुए हैं। बोर्ड के मुख्य परिचालन अधिकारी भावजीत जौहर ने ईएसपीएनक्रिकइंफो को एक बयान में बताया कि आईसीसी द्वारा उठाए गए शासन और वित्तीय नियंत्रण संबंधी अधिकांश मुद्दे अप्रैल/मई में हुए चुनावों से पहले की ऐतिहासिक प्रथाओं और निर्णयों से संबंधित हैं। नए बोर्ड को ये पुरानी समस्याएं विरासत में मिली हैं और अब वह सुधारात्मक और निवारक उपायों को लागू करने के लिए जिम्मेदार है। आईसीसी को सूचित किया गया है कि नया बोर्ड पूर्ण अनुपालन के लिए प्रतिबद्ध है और उसने संरचनात्मक और शासन संबंधी सुधारों को लागू करना शुरू कर दिया है।
अपनी प्रतिक्रिया के तहत, क्रिकेट कनाडा ने वकील दाशा पेरेगौडोवा की अध्यक्षता में एक स्वतंत्र समिति का गठन किया है। समिति को आईसीसी द्वारा उठाए गए मुद्दों की जांच करने और दो सप्ताह के भीतर अंतरिम सिफारिशें प्रस्तुत करने का कार्य सौंपा गया है, जिसके बाद 45 दिनों के भीतर एक पूर्ण रिपोर्ट प्रस्तुत करनी होगी। क्रिकेट कनाडा के अनुसार, पैनल को वित्तीय रिकॉर्ड, कर्मियों और दस्तावेजों तक असीमित पहुंच प्राप्त है।
क्रिकेट कनाडा की सदस्यता बहाल करने के प्रयासों के तहत, शासी निकाय द्वारा आईसीसी की सामान्यीकरण समिति के साथ भी बातचीत करने की उम्मीद है, जिसमें क्रिकेट ऑस्ट्रेलिया के अध्यक्ष माइक बेयर्ड और आईसीसी के उपाध्यक्ष इमरान ख्वाजा शामिल हैं। गौरतलब है कि आईसीसी की यह कार्रवाई क्रिकेट कनाडा के लिए उथल-पुथल भरे दौर के बाद हुई है, जिसमें पूर्व मुख्य कार्यकारी सलमान खान की नियुक्ति और बाद में बर्खास्तगी शामिल है। उनके आपराधिक आरोपों का खुलासा न किए जाने के कारण उनकी नियुक्ति पर सवाल उठे थे। खान पर कैलगरी पुलिस ने चोरी और धोखाधड़ी का आरोप लगाया है और उन्होंने इन आरोपों से इनकार किया है।
