'कैप्टन कूल' को लेकर इस सीजन शुरुआत में उम्मीद थी कि वह पिंडली की चोट से जल्दी रिकवर कर लेंगे और मैदान पर एक बार फिर अपने पुराने अंदाज में नजर आएंगे. प्रैक्टिस सेशन के कुछ वीडियो भी सामने आए थे, जिससे फैंस काफी उत्साहित हो गए थे. लेकिन अब जो ताजा अपडेट आया है, उसने चिंता बढ़ा दी है. सीएसके के हेड कोच स्टीफन फ्लेमिंग के मुताबिक, वार्म-अप के दौरान धोनी ने कुछ ज्यादा ही जोर लगा दिया, जिसके बाद उनकी चोट फिर से बढ़ गई. यानी रिकवरी प्रोसेस उतना आसान नहीं रहा जितना पहले सोचा जा रहा था. 44 साल की उम्र में बार-बार चोट लगना और रिकवरी में ज्यादा समय लगना अब टीम और फैंस दोनों के लिए चिंता का विषय बन गया है. सबसे बड़ा सवाल अब यही उठ रहा है क्या ये एमएस धोनी के आईपीएल करियर के आखिरी पड़ाव की शुरुआत है? फैंस अभी भी उम्मीद लगाए बैठे हैं कि धोनी जल्द फिट होकर मैदान पर उतरेंगे और एक बार फिर अपने फिनिशिंग अंदाज से मैच खत्म करेंगे.
