News18सीजेआई सूर्यकांत की अध्यक्षता वाली नौ जजों की बेंच में भारी बहस हुई. सॉलिसिटर जनरल तुषार मेहता ने केंद्र सरकार का पक्ष रखा.तुषार मेहता ने कहा, 'हम शायद एकमात्र ऐसे समाज हैं जो महिलाओं की पूजा करते हैं'. उन्होंने कहा कि प्रेसिडेंट से लेकर सीजेआई तक देवियों के सामने नतमस्तक होते हैं. मेहता ने कहा कि भारत उतना पितृसत्तात्मक नहीं है जितना पश्चिम समझता है. उन्होंने फैसले में लैंगिक रूढ़ियों की बात शामिल करने पर कड़ा एतराज जताया.
