Bangladesh is witnessing fresh unrest as thousands of garment workers take to the streets demanding a minimum monthly wage of 30,000 Taka, against their current salary of around 12,000 Taka. Protests, violence, road blockades and the closure of hundreds of factories have raised concerns over the country's economic stability. Meanwhile, an intelligence report has reportedly alleged that leaders linked to former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's Awami League are attempting to use workers' anger to destabilize the Tarique Rahman government. Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has also accused former regime-linked industrialists and factory owners of fueling unrest. With Bangladesh's garment industry contributing over 81% of the country's total exports, the ongoing crisis could have serious economic and political consequences.
