DWबर्लिन की दीवार ने सिर्फ शहर को ही नहीं बल्कि लोगों को भी दो हिस्सों में बांट दिया था. पूर्वी जर्मनी में कम्युनिस्ट शासन था जबकि पश्चिमी में लोकतांत्रिक व्यवस्था थी और अर्थव्यवस्था तेजी से आगे बढ़ रही थी. ऐसे में पूर्वी हिस्से से हर दिन लोग भागकर पश्चिमी हिस्से में जाने की कोशिश करते. लेकिन बर्लिन की दीवार बनने के बाद यह कोशिश जानलेवा हो गई. फिर भी लोग जान जोखिम में डालकर दीवार फांदने की कोशिश में लगे रहते. The Berlin Wall did not just split a city. It separated families, friends, and entire communities. While East Germany lived under a communist regime, West Germany was experiencing rapid economic growth. Drawn by better opportunities and greater freedoms, many East Germans tried to flee to the West. After the Wall was built, those attempts became far more dangerous, but people continued risking their lives in search of a better future.
