An Indian Express report claims that Election Commissioners Sukhbir Sandhu and Vivek Joshi objected on record 14 times in 10 months to steps taken by the Commission. According to the report, these steps ranged from keeping them in the dark to adding new voters and deleting names. The ECI has dismissed the rift claims. It says all decisions were unanimous and that differing views are a normal part of decision-making. It adds that written notes and internal checks ensure transparency, that EROs have statutory powers, and that all orders follow statutory procedures under the 2023 Act. The Commission says highlighting a few internal notes gives "only one part of the picture." The row has escalated politically over the SIR. AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal has called the entire SIR process illegal and demanded a new voter list. Rahul Gandhi called "vote chori" an act of treason, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra called it a very serious assault on democracy.
