West Bengal Madrasa Crackdown: 2,396 Declared Illegal, 252 Get Closure Notices West Bengal has begun a major crackdown involving hundreds of madrasas. As many as 2,396 institutions across 22 districts have reportedly been declared illegal, with 252 already facing closure notices. Another 100 have been asked to explain the legal basis of their operation.
