BBC NewsThe judge in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial has declared a mistrial after jurors said they could not reach a unanimous verdict on whether she was criminally responsible when she strangled her three young children. The ruling, reached after seven days of deliberations, leaves the case unresolved and allows prosecutors to try Clancy again. The final day of the trial took a dramatic turn when the judge gave Clancy’s attorney a chance to appeal the mistrial order. Her lawyer was angry that a note from the jury had suggested that a single juror wouldn’t follow the court’s instructions about reasonable doubt. The Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court ultimately denied the appeal. Clancy, a 36-year-old former labor and delivery nurse, doesn’t deny strangling her children in the basement of their home in 2023. Clancy’s legal team has argued that postpartum psychosis led to her actions, while prosecutors say she knew what she was doing.
