पूर्व भारतीय बल्लेबाज रॉबिन उथप्पा ने बड़े लक्ष्य का पीछा करते समय भारत की बल्लेबाजी रणनीति में भूमिका को लेकर स्पष्टता की कमी की ओर इशारा करते हुए कहा कि पारी की शुरुआत में अत्यधिक लचीलेपन के कारण रन बनाना मुश्किल हो जाता है।
भारतीय टीम बृहस्पतिवार को मुल्लनपुर में खेले गए दूसरे टी20 मैच में दक्षिण अफ्रीका के खिलाफ 214 रनों के लक्ष्य का पीछा करते हुए 19.1 ओवर में 162 रन पर आउट हो गयी। इस 51 रन की हार के साथ पांच मैचों की श्रृंखला 1-1 से बराबर हो गयी।
उथप्पा ने कहा कि समस्या शुरुआती विकेट गिरने की नहीं थी, बल्कि शुभमन गिल के आउट होने के बाद अपनाई गई रणनीति की थी। भारत के पास मजबूत बल्लेबाजी क्रम है लेकिन टीम ने उसका इस्तेमाल अच्छे से नहीं किया।
उन्हों ‘जियो हॉटस्टार’ पर कहा, ‘‘ शुभमन गिल आउट हुए तो अक्षर पटेल बल्लेबाजी करने आए। उस समय उन्हें एक ऐसे बल्लेबाज की भूमिका निभानी थी जो जोखिम उठाकर बल्लेबाजी करें और तेजी से रन बनाकर अभिषेक शर्मा पर से दबाव कम कर सके।’’
उथप्पा का मानना था कि अक्षर की धीमी गति से खेली गई 21 रनों की पारी दबाव कम करने में विफल रही, जिससे उनके आसपास विकेट गिरने लगे और रणनीति में बदलाव करना पड़ा। इससे लक्ष्य का पीछा करना और धीमा हो गया।
उन्होंने कहा, ‘‘अंतरराष्ट्रीय स्तर पर बल्लेबाजों को अपनी भूमिकाओं और पारी को आगे बढ़ाने के तरीके के बारे में स्पष्ट जानकारी होनी चाहिए।’’
उन्होंने कहा, ‘‘पहले छह से आठ ओवरों के बाद बल्लेबाजों की रणनीति में लचीलापन ठीक है, लेकिन बड़े स्कोर का पीछा करने से पहले एक मजबूत नींव की जरूरत होती है। बिना मजबूत आधार के गगनचुंबी इमारत नहीं खड़ी की जा सकती।
उन्होंने कहा, ‘‘खिलाड़ियों से एक ही मैच में कई भूमिकाएं निभाने की उम्मीद करना चीजों को जटिल बना देता है और भारत यहीं चूक कर रहा है। मैं सलामी बल्लेबाजों और पारी की शुरुआत चरण में अत्यधिक लचीलापन दिखाने के पक्ष में नहीं हूं।
