लोकसभा में विपक्ष के नेता राहुल गांधी ने बुधवार को लोक कल्याण मार्ग पर कांग्रेस पार्टी के विरोध प्रदर्शन का बचाव किया और विपक्षी नेताओं से छात्रों के साथ मिलकर सड़कों पर उतरने की अपील की। ​​उन्होंने विपक्ष की मांग के बावजूद NEET-UG पेपर लीक पर चर्चा न कराने के लिए संसद की आलोचना की। नई दिल्ली में एक प्रेस कॉन्फ्रेंस में गांधी ने कहा कि हमें लगा कि अगर पूरे देश में छात्र सड़कों पर उतर रहे हैं, तो विपक्ष को भी ऐसा ही करना चाहिए। हालाँकि, हमारा मुख्य कार्यक्षेत्र संसद है। प्रधानमंत्री के आवास पर जाने से पहले, विपक्ष ने स्पीकर से उनके चैंबर में मुलाकात की। हमने उनसे इस अहम मुद्दे पर चर्चा की अनुमति देने का आग्रह किया। स्पीकर ने कहा कि वह सरकार से सलाह-मशविरा करेंगे – जिसका मतलब था कि फैसला सरकार के हाथ में है, उनके नहीं। लेकिन सलाह-मशविरा के बाद भी कोई चर्चा नहीं हुई; पूरे मुद्दे को नज़रअंदाज़ कर दिया गया।

मंगलवार को कांग्रेस ने लोक कल्याण मार्ग पर विरोध प्रदर्शन किया, जिसके दौरान पुलिस ने राहुल गांधी, प्रियंका गांधी वाड्रा, समाजवादी पार्टी के प्रमुख अखिलेश यादव और अन्य नेताओं को हिरासत में ले लिया। पार्टी ने प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी और शिक्षा मंत्री धर्मेंद्र प्रधान के इस्तीफ़े की मांग की। गांधी ने प्रधान के इस्तीफ़े की मांग दोहराते हुए उन्हें शिक्षा व्यवस्था में गड़बड़ियों और सोमवार को प्रदर्शनकारियों के ख़िलाफ़ पुलिस की कार्रवाई का प्रतीक बताया।

उन्होंने कहा कि धर्मेंद्र प्रधान एक प्रतीक हैं और छात्रों को इस बात का दुख है कि उनके साथ कैसा बर्ताव किया गया है। छात्रों के सम्मान में, उस प्रतीक को हटाना होगा। वह पूरी तरह से अयोग्य हैं और शायद इस (पेपर लीक) मामले में मिलीभगत भी रखते हैं। हम उनकी पृष्ठभूमि जानते हैं; हम जानते हैं कि वह कितने ईमानदार हैं। इसका एक इतिहास रहा है। छात्रों को यह संदेश देने के लिए कि हम उनकी भावनाओं का सम्मान करते हैं, इस व्यक्ति को जाना ही होगा। हम कल इस मांग के समर्थन में प्रधानमंत्री आवास गए थे, जो हर छात्र कर रहा है।

गांधी ने आगे आरोप लगाया कि सरकार पेपर लीक विवाद से जनता का ध्यान भटकाना चाहती है। उन्होंने कहा कि जवाबदेही तय करने के बाद, कांग्रेस परीक्षा प्रणाली में सुधार की वकालत करेगी। उन्होंने समझाया कि बातचीत कैसे होगी, यह सिर्फ़ सरकार का फ़ैसला नहीं है, क्योंकि इसके लिए दो पक्षों की ज़रूरत होती है। यह विपक्ष तय करेगा, कम से कम हमारी तरफ़ से तो यही होगा। सरकार इस मामले से ध्यान भटकाना चाहती है। सरकार इसे दबा देना चाहती है, जैसे कि ऐसा कुछ हुआ ही न हो। हम मुख्य मुद्दे का समाधान चाहते हैं। PM को माफ़ी मांगनी चाहिए और जिन लोगों ने छात्रों पर हमला किया, उन्हें ज़िम्मेदार ठहराया जाना चाहिए; यह पहला कदम है। इसके बाद हम टेस्टिंग सिस्टम और लोगों से वसूले जा रहे पैसे में बदलाव देखना चाहते हैं।
