शिवसेना (UBT) नेता आदित्य ठाकरे ने शुक्रवार को बांद्रा वेस्ट में नेविल डिसूज़ा फुटबॉल ग्राउंड को कन्वेंशन सेंटर में बदलने के लिए BJP की आलोचना की। उन्होंने आरोप लगाया कि इस कदम से युवाओं को खेल के मैदान नहीं मिल पाएंगे और इससे कॉन्ट्रैक्टरों और बिल्डरों को फायदा होगा। एक्स पर एक पोस्ट में आदित्य ठाकरे ने लिखा, अगर आप सोच रहे हैं कि 1.4 अरब से ज़्यादा आबादी होने के बावजूद भारत FIFA वर्ल्ड कप क्यों नहीं खेल रहा है, और हमारे सबसे छोटे शहरों से भी कम आबादी वाले देश क्यों खेल रहे हैं, तो सोचना बंद कर दीजिए: BJP राज्य सरकार के आदेशों से समर्थित BMC में BJP सरकार ने अभी-अभी बांद्रा वेस्ट में नेविल डिसूज़ा फुटबॉल ग्राउंड को कन्वेंशन सेंटर के लिए रिज़र्व कर दिया है। एक कॉन्ट्रैक्टर को पैसे मिलेंगे, एक बिल्डर को लोकेशन का फ़ायदा मिलेगा और कन्वेंशन सेंटर को एक BJP नेता का नाम मिलेगा।

आदित्य ठाकरे ने कहा कि पिछले नौ सालों में इस मैदान पर ग्रासरूट से लेकर एलीट डिवीज़न तक कई टूर्नामेंट हुए हैं। उन्होंने कहा कि मुंबई फुटबॉल एसोसिएशन की गुजारिश के बावजूद, अब इस मैदान का इस्तेमाल खेलों के लिए करने पर रोक लगा दी गई है। आदित्य ने आगे कहा, पिछले 9 सालों से इस मैदान पर हर सीज़न में हज़ारों खिलाड़ी और कई टूर्नामेंट हुए हैं। ग्रासरूट से लेकर एलीट डिवीज़न तक, नेविल डिसूज़ा फुटबॉल ग्राउंड ने इन सभी की मेज़बानी की है। अब मुंबई फुटबॉल एसोसिएशन की गुजारिश के बावजूद, उन्हें अपने ही मैदान का इस्तेमाल करने से रोक दिया गया है, और अब इस खुली जगह पर एक कॉन्ट्रैक्टर कन्वेंशन सेंटर बनाएगा। बांद्रा वेस्ट और रिक्लेमेशन, जो पहले से ही बहुत ज़्यादा ट्रैफिक वाला इलाका है, वहाँ और भी ज़्यादा ट्रैफिक होगा, और वह भी ठीक अस्पताल के सामने। लेकिन बीजेपी के कॉन्ट्रैक्टर और बिल्डर खुशी से मुस्कुराएंगे, जबकि बच्चे अपना खेल का मैदान खो देंगे और बांद्रा में ट्रैफिक की एक और समस्या जुड़ जाएगी।

आदित्य ने आगे कहा कि उनके पहले के विरोध-प्रदर्शनों ने मुंबई में दो और मनोरंजन के मैदानों और शहर के म्युनिसिपल ब्लड बैंकों को प्राइवेट होने से बचाया था। उन्होंने आगे कहा, मुंबई फुटबॉल एसोसिएशन के तौर पर, ज़ाहिर है कि अब हमें दूसरे मैदानों के इस्तेमाल के लिए पैसे देने होंगे, लेकिन सरकार मुंबई में खेलों को खत्म करने पर तुली हुई है, क्योंकि मनोरंजन के मैदानों को मनमाने ढंग से कंक्रीट की इमारतों में बदला जा रहा है, जहाँ जाने के लिए टिकट लेना पड़ता है और एंट्री पर कंट्रोल होता है। असल मुद्दा यह है कि युवाओं से खेल के मैदान छीनना, एसोसिएशन से मैदान छीनना और फिर खेल के भविष्य पर बहस करना बेकार है। मेरे पहले के विरोध-प्रदर्शन ने मुंबई में मनोरंजन के 2 मैदान बचाए थे, लेकिन बीजेपी इस प्लॉट पर अपने किसी नेता के नाम पर कन्वेंशन सेंटर बनाना चाहती है। हमने शहर के म्युनिसिपल ब्लड बैंकों को भी प्राइवेट होने से बचाया था - लेकिन उनका ध्यान इस मैदान पर था।
