बाएं हाथ के स्पिनर मानव सुथार ने अंतरराष्ट्रीय क्रिकेट में शानदार प्रदर्शन करते हुए अपने पहले टेस्ट मैच में ही छह विकेट लेकर अफगानिस्तान को 152 रनों पर ढेर कर दिया और सोमवार को खेले गए एकमात्र टेस्ट मैच के तीसरे दिन अफगानिस्तान को फॉलो-ऑन के लिए मजबूर कर दिया। राजस्थान के 23 वर्षीय ऑलराउंडर ने 22 ओवरों में 33 रन देकर 6 विकेट लिए और टेस्ट डेब्यू पर पांच विकेट लेने वाले भारत के 10वें गेंदबाज और सातवें स्पिनर बन गए।
सुथार की इस निर्णायक गेंदबाजी ने उन्हें रिकॉर्ड बुक में भी जगह दिलाई। टेस्ट डेब्यू पर भारतीय गेंदबाजों द्वारा लिए गए उनके ये आंकड़े 1988 में वेस्टइंडीज के खिलाफ नरेंद्र हिरवानी के यादगार 61 रन देकर 8 विकेट के बाद दूसरे सर्वश्रेष्ठ हैं। दिन की शुरुआत में 113 रन पर 5 विकेट के साथ, अफगानिस्तान को भारत के अनुशासित गेंदबाजी आक्रमण के सामने संघर्ष करना पड़ा। तेज गेंदबाज प्रसिद्ध कृष्णा ने शुरुआती झटके देते हुए अजमतुल्लाह उमरज़ई को शून्य पर आउट किया, जिसके बाद सुथार ने पारी को अपने नियंत्रण में ले लिया।
बाएं हाथ के स्पिनर ने सुबह के सत्र में तीन विकेट लिए, पहले शरफुद्दीन अशरफ को 11 रन पर आउट किया और फिर अफगानिस्तान के शीर्ष स्कोरर रहमत शाह को पवेलियन भेजा, जिन्होंने 60 रन बनाने के लिए कड़ी मेहनत की थी। इसके बाद सुथार ने मोहम्मद सलीम सफ़ी को एलबीडब्ल्यू आउट करके अपना पहला पांच विकेट लेने का कारनामा पूरा किया और फिर एक और विकेट लेकर कुल छह विकेट लिए।
अफगानिस्तान की पारी 58.4 ओवरों में ही समाप्त हो गई, जिससे भारत को पहली पारी में 412 रनों की मजबूत बढ़त मिल गई। मेजबान टीम ने तुरंत फॉलो-ऑन लागू कर दिया। मुख्य कोच गौतम गंभीर और सहायक टीम के सदस्यों ने सुथार के शानदार प्रदर्शन के बाद ड्रेसिंग रूम में लौटते समय उनकी सराहना की। सुथार का उदय घरेलू क्रिकेट में लगातार अच्छे प्रदर्शन पर आधारित है। राजस्थान के इस क्रिकेटर ने 29 प्रथम श्रेणी मैच खेले हैं, जिनमें उन्होंने 25.76 की औसत से 129 विकेट लिए हैं और 25.65 की औसत से 1,026 रन भी बनाए हैं।
