भारत के लिए चल रहे टी20 विश्व कप 2026 में सबसे ज्यादा विकेट लेने वाले गेंदबाज वरुण चक्रवर्ती ने इंग्लैंड के खिलाफ सेमीफाइनल मुकाबले में अपने चार ओवरों में 64 रन लुटा दिए। बीच मैदान पर उनकी कोई भी रणनीति कारगर नहीं हुई, क्योंकि जैकब बेथेल ने उन पर जमकर प्रहार किया। पहले ही ओवर में इंग्लैंड के अंतरराष्ट्रीय गेंदबाज ने उन्हें लगातार तीन छक्के जड़े, जिससे हार का रुख साफ हो गया और भारत को सात रन से हार का सामना करना पड़ा।

सुपर एट्स के बाद से वरुण की सबसे बड़ी समस्या उनकी अत्यधिक सोचने की आदत रही है। ऐसा लगता है कि वह अगली गेंद पर ध्यान केंद्रित करने के बजाय पिछली गेंद पर ज्यादा सोचते रहते हैं। इंग्लैंड के खिलाफ सेमीफाइनल में यह साफ तौर पर देखने को मिला, जब विकेटकीपर संजू सैमसन को स्पिनर को रोकने और अपना ध्यान केंद्रित करने के लिए उनसे कई बार बात करनी पड़ी।
