इंग्लैंड की टेस्ट टीम के नए हेड कोच को लेकर चल रही चर्चाओं के बीच पूर्व मुख्य कोच एंडी फ्लावर ने अपनी स्थिति पूरी तरह स्पष्ट कर दी है। उन्होंने साफ शब्दों में कहा है कि वह इस पद की दौड़ में शामिल नहीं हैं और फिलहाल अपनी मौजूदा जिम्मेदारियों के साथ ही आगे बढ़ना चाहते हैं। ऐसे में इंग्लैंड एवं वेल्स क्रिकेट बोर्ड को अब नए मुख्य कोच की तलाश किसी दूसरे उम्मीदवार में करनी होगी।
बता दें कि हाल ही में ब्रेंडन मैक्कलम को इंग्लैंड टेस्ट टीम के हेड कोच पद से हटा दिया गया था। यह फैसला उस समय सामने आया जब टीम के कप्तान बेन स्टोक्स ने अंतरराष्ट्रीय क्रिकेट से संन्यास लेने की घोषणा की। इसके बाद से ही नए हेड कोच को लेकर कई नामों की चर्चा शुरू हो गई थी, जिनमें एंडी फ्लावर का नाम भी प्रमुखता से लिया जा रहा था।
लंदन स्पिरिट पुरुष टीम के हेड कोच के रूप में मीडिया से बातचीत के दौरान एंडी फ्लावर से जब इस विषय पर सवाल पूछा गया तो उन्होंने स्पष्ट जवाब देते हुए कहा कि उन्होंने खुद को इस दौड़ से बाहर कर लिया है। उनका कहना था कि वह एक साथ दो बड़ी जिम्मेदारियां नहीं निभा सकते।
मौजूद जानकारी के अनुसार एंडी फ्लावर इस समय इंडियन प्रीमियर लीग की मौजूदा विजेता टीम रॉयल चैलेंजर्स बेंगलुरु के हेड कोच भी हैं। उन्होंने कहा कि इंडियन प्रीमियर लीग का आयोजन अंग्रेजी क्रिकेट सत्र के शुरुआती महीनों में होता है। यदि वह इंग्लैंड की टेस्ट टीम के हेड कोच बनते तो उन्हें घरेलू क्रिकेट पर नजर रखने, खिलाड़ियों का प्रदर्शन देखने और चयन से जुड़े लोगों के साथ लगातार संपर्क में रहना पड़ता। ऐसे में दोनों जिम्मेदारियां एक साथ निभाना उनके लिए संभव नहीं होता।
फ्लावर ने यह भी स्वीकार किया कि इस मुद्दे पर उनकी इंग्लैंड एवं वेल्स क्रिकेट बोर्ड के प्रबंध निदेशक रॉब की से बातचीत हुई थी। उन्होंने कहा कि उन्हें हेड कोच पद पर खाली जगह की पूरी जानकारी है और इस विषय पर बोर्ड से चर्चा भी हुई है। हालांकि उन्होंने साफ किया कि वह फिलहाल अपने वर्तमान काम से पूरी तरह संतुष्ट हैं और जिन संस्थाओं के साथ जुड़े हुए हैं, वहां के माहौल और टीमों से खुश हैं। इसलिए वह अपने मौजूदा दायित्वों को ही जारी रखना चाहते हैं।
गौरतलब है कि एंडी फ्लावर का इंग्लैंड क्रिकेट के साथ लंबा और सफल संबंध रहा है। उन्होंने वर्ष 2007 में इंग्लैंड पुरुष टीम के सहायक कोच के रूप में काम किया था। इसके बाद वर्ष 2009 से 2014 तक वह टीम के मुख्य कोच रहे। उनके कार्यकाल में इंग्लैंड ने टेस्ट क्रिकेट में कई यादगार सफलताएं हासिल की थीं और दुनिया की शीर्ष टीमों में अपनी मजबूत पहचान बनाई थी।
फ्लावर ने कहा कि इंग्लैंड की टीम का हेड कोच बनना किसी भी क्रिकेट विशेषज्ञ के लिए सम्मान की बात होती है। उन्होंने अपने पुराने कार्यकाल को याद करते हुए कहा कि वह समय उनके जीवन के सबसे अच्छे अनुभवों में शामिल है और उन्हें हमेशा गर्व रहेगा कि उन्हें इंग्लैंड जैसी बड़ी टीम का प्रतिनिधित्व करने का अवसर मिला।
अब इंग्लैंड की टीम 19 अगस्त से हेडिंग्ले मैदान पर पाकिस्तान के खिलाफ अगला टेस्ट मुकाबला खेलेगी। ऐसे में इंग्लैंड एवं वेल्स क्रिकेट बोर्ड के पास नए हेड कोच की नियुक्ति के लिए लगभग एक महीने का समय बचा है। माना जा रहा है कि बोर्ड जल्द ही इस पद के लिए अंतिम फैसला लेकर नई जिम्मेदारी किसी उपयुक्त उम्मीदवार को सौंप सकता हैं।
