उदयपुर में महाराणा प्रताप की 486वीं जयंती के मौके पर आयोजित एक कार्यक्रम में, राष्ट्रीय स्वयंसेवक संघ (RSS) के प्रमुख मोहन भागवत ने इतिहास के प्रचलित विवरणों को चुनौती देते हुए कहा कि हल्दीघाटी की लड़ाई में राजपूत राजा की स्पष्ट जीत हुई थी। भागवत ने भारतीय इतिहास में मौजूद गलत नैरेटिव की आलोचना की। उन्होंने कहा कि सदियों से यहाँ के मूल शासकों के बजाय हमलावरों को महिमामंडित किया गया है। उन्होंने कहा कि हल्दीघाटी की लड़ाई में जीत महाराणा प्रताप और भारत की तरफ से लड़ने वालों को मिली थी – यह बिल्कुल साफ है। ऐतिहासिक बहस एकतरफा थी, लेकिन तथ्य उस नैरेटिव को गलत साबित करते हैं।
इस आम राय पर बात करते हुए कि 1576 की लड़ाई अकबर के नेतृत्व में मुगल साम्राज्य की रणनीतिक जीत के तौर पर खत्म हुई, भागवत ने मुगल इतिहासकारों के बयानों का ज़िक्र किया। उन्होंने बताया कि इतिहासकारों ने खुद माना था कि पहले हमले के बाद उनकी सेना को कई मील पीछे हटना पड़ा था। उन्होंने कहा कि अगर हम खुद मुगल इतिहासकारों की लिखी बातों पर गौर करें, तो वे बताते हैं कि पहले ही हमले में उन्हें अपनी जगह छोड़नी पड़ी और छह-सात मील पीछे हटना पड़ा। तो फिर जीत किसकी हुई? उस दौर में भी ऐसे इतिहासकार थे जो गलत नैरेटिव या कहानियाँ गढ़ते थे।
महाराणा प्रताप की विरासत को आज के समय से जोड़ते हुए भागवत ने कहा कि आज महाराणा प्रताप की जयंती है। कल इस लड़ाई को चार सौ पचास साल पूरे हुए। हल्दीघाटी की लड़ाई को जीत क्यों माना जाता है? इसलिए क्योंकि महाराणा प्रताप का जन्म हुआ था; आज ही आने वाले कल के नतीजों की वजह बनता है। हमें यह बात समझनी चाहिए। भारतीय सभ्यता और दुनिया पर उसके असर के बारे में बात करते हुए, उन्होंने इस बात पर ज़ोर दिया कि भारत का ऐतिहासिक प्रभाव जीत हासिल करने के बजाय सेवा और ज्ञान के ज़रिए फैला।
उन्होंने कहा कि हमारा मानना है कि कोई व्यक्ति जो भी रास्ता चुनता है, वह सही है; यह पूरी तरह से उन पर, उनकी भावनाओं और ईश्वर या शुभ समय के बारे में उनकी सोच पर निर्भर करता है। इसी वजह से हमने सभी का स्वागत किया, सभी का पालन-पोषण और सुरक्षा की, और सभी के साथ ज्ञान साझा किया। भागवत ने आगे कहा कि हम विदेशों में गए, लेकिन हम कोई सेना लेकर नहीं गए। इसके बजाय, हम सेवा के लिए ज़रूरी ज्ञान, चिकित्सा विशेषज्ञता, शिक्षा और संस्कृति लेकर गए। हमने वहाँ जाकर दोस्ती की और उन दोस्ती के आधार पर हमने अपनी अच्छी खूबियों को पूरी दुनिया के साथ साझा किया। भारत के तौर पर हम इसी तरह जी रहे थे।
